Sunlight-meter (heliograph)

The base in Meteorology are the observations of the weather.

This is done by the weatherobservers around the world , at a same given time (Synop-observartion)

It could be done by automatic (computer-based) stations or by human manned stations.

There are also some difference between how they are done, or by whom they are done.

Often you will find professional staff at the airports, but also staff in the countryside or islands that are employed by their countries own regular state or military owened weather (met-office) services.

Some of these stations not only report meteorological data, they also give some climatical data too.

Not all, but some do, and in some cases, they also measure the rate of sunlighthours of the days.

How do you meet sunligh- hours in an trustwurthy method?

Well, it could be done by a heliograph. Some of these could be done by computerised UV-radiation indicators and registrators. And some of these have just an ordinary "crystalball".

Yes, a crystalball, that is like a magnifying-glass that burns a line on a paper.

The sunlight, makes a sharp burning ray of light when it passes through the glass,

and you can see the line as a burned line on a special-measured paper.

Simple and genious!

Once a day (24-hour) you change the paper, and then you send the report to your met-office.

These stations are often called climate- stations and not weatherstations, and these are not as close to each other as the ordinary weatherstations. These climate stations indicate were there has been a lot or less sunshine in that specific area. Do not get so happy or sad about the hours of sunlight reported by a station in or  your local neighborhood. The town next to you, maybe report something different, its just an indication.

Here is a Heliograph below, can you see the black paper?

And behind  the white cupboard ,with meteorological instuments like thermometers and hygrographical instuments.

Sometimes I write in English and sometimes in Swedish. I have a lot of readers  and friends in USA and Europe, and I will try to continue to write in English.
It will be more convenient for you because most of the videoclips are American or in English.
I will try to do my best with the English, but sometimes there will occur

So please make allowances for my Swedish-English.

On a high level!

Celebrations on a high level!

I´m not a man of big celebrations, but a day like this one could have time for some reflections..

I "round" myself, and in these days it´s 1 year since I started my blogg Flygspectrum, and almost a year since I finished my treatment at the University Hospital in Lund (Sweden).

Time flies, And I take this oppurtunity to celebrate , but in a modest way..

Though I wish I could take a ride in planes like these, but who doesn´t?

And even if you stand with both feet on the ground I also wish to visit Chicago again and this magnificent building.

Those Fantastic Men With Their Fantastic Flying Machines!

Without These Guys, We Wouldn’t Have Any Warbirds Left

If You Think About It, These Guys Are Priceless

This is one of those things people never really think or talk about. We love to see old warbirds fly, be they Thunderbolts, Spitfires, Lightnings, Mustangs or any other excellent war machine, but it’s the maintainers that make all this happen. We know the planes like the back of our hands and for the most part know all the pilots associated with them. What we fail to see most of the time is the guys that put in the countless hours needed to keep these birds flying and in tip top shape.
-It’s difficult. Anybody that has worked on an airplane knows, you second guess yourself all the time. You’ll be sleeping at night and wake up…in shock thinking ‘did I put that washer back on?’-Randy Poe, Aircraft Maintainer
These highly skilled guys are serious about their jobs, and there is no other way to go about it. As the Horsemen will tell you, there is a bond between them as strong as their fellow pilots they’re flying with. Without it, these warbirds wouldn’t be flying nor would the pilots want to in planes fixed by someone they don’t know. All in all, we just wanted to pay a tribute to the men no one really talks about.

Extraordinary Jet Team : Breitling !

Chicago Air & Water Show 2015 August 15:th & 16:th

This could have been seen live on the net.

I saw most of the airshow, I liked the T6 of course, and the show on Saturday ended with The Blue Angels from US. Navy.

I don´t know if they are giving the show live again on the net on Sunday the 16:th. If so check it out, cause there are some good stuff to watch!

Check this link out:

The Blue Angels are a very "tight" team in the air and they are really amazing to watch. I wonder if there is another airshow-team in the world, that fly so close to each other?  Very Impressive and beautiful, with perfection. !

Chicago is "my kind of town" in United States I just love that city.

I have been there a couple of times as a visitor, but not as a ordinary tourist.

I´ve spent the time there living with my Swedish-American relatives and a girlfriend that lived in the nothern town near O´Hare airport.

So I´m a little bit familiar with Chicago, "The Windy City".

The show was broadcasted from one of the beaches, and most of the airplanes flew over Lake Michigan. You must have in mind that close to the beach is a lot of "skyscrapers" like John Hancock building  aprox: 380 m high, but there are other high buildings too. That´s what makes this airshow a little bit spactacular in a way.

The most impressive airteam to me was in fact the French Breitling team, with their elegance in the air..

If you are able to watch the "live show" on Sunday afternoon look out for this team!

(HD)

If any of the Swedish Airforce planes  JAS 39 Gripen or

AJS 37 Viggen  had been there, They had stolen the whole show, for sure !

Who am I ? Airplane identification Quiz

Who am I ?

-I am an ogival delta winged aircraft  with four engines.

-I was the first airliner to have a (in this case, analogue) flight-control system.

-I have a  drooping nose,  enable me to switch between being streamlined to reduce drag and achieve optimum aerodynamic efficiency, and not obstructing the pilot's view during taxi, takeoff, and landing operations. Due to the high angle of attack, the long pointed nose obstructed the view and necessitated the capability to droop. The droop nose was accompanied by a moving visor that retracted into the nose prior to being lowered. When the nose was raised to horizontal, the visor would rise in front of the cockpit windscreen for aerodynamic streamlining.

-My tai fin is not so very high.

-I have a long nosewheel.

-Because of the way my delta-wing generated lift, the undercarriage had to be unusually strong. At rotation I rise to a high angle of attack, about 18 degrees. Prior to rotation the wing generate almost no lift, unlike typical aircraft wings. Combined with the high airspeed at  Due to the high angle needed at rotation, a small set of wheels were added aft to prevent tailstrikes. The rear main undercarriage units swing towards each other to be stowed but due to their great height also need to retract telescopically before swinging in order to clear each other when stowed I have four main wheel tyre.

-I am supersonic and my manufactors came from France and Great Britain.

- I was painted in White, Blue and Red.

-Have you guessed me yet?

 - I was a Supersonic airliner,

and my Airlines were Air France and British Airways.

  • Crew: 3

  • Capacity: 92–120 passengers

  • Length: 202 ft 4 in (61.66 m)

I am concidered as "one of the most beautiful" airliner ever built!
